About The Project

GREEN URBANISATION MANISA-PINETO 2050

The project was submitted to the Central Finance and Contracts Unit in two phases by the project experts of the EU and Foreign Affairs Bureau of the Governorship of Manisa on behalf of the Investment and Monitoring Coordination Directorate of the Governorship of Manisa and was found successful and awarded a grant.

The aim of the project is to improve the dialogue between Turkish and EU local governments and strengthen the capacities of local governments for climate and environment based actions. Through town twinning projects, sustainable structures will be established to promote mutual exchange between local authorities in Turkey and EU countries in environment and climate related fields.

The overall budget of the project is 97.530 Euro. 10.000 Euro of this is co-financing.

The partners of the project are; Greece University of Thessaly, Italy Pineto Municipality and Manisa Improvement and Development Association.

The University of Thessaly has academic staff that can support this project with interventions specialised in climate change, EU policies and directives on climate change, the European Green Deal, ‘greening’ and environmentally friendly energy practices etc. It also has experts who can offer the latest technologies and software for emissions tracking and monitoring. This university is responsible for research activities in the project. The reports they will prepare as a result of their research; Vulnerability analyses, climate impact reports and Climate-Action Report.

Municipality of Pineto; Pineto is an Italian town of about 15.000 inhabitants located on the Adriatic coast of the province of Teramo in the Abruzzo Region (transitional region according to the EU Cohesion policy). It was selected as a pilot municipality by the European Union for its successful implementation of sustainable and green urbanisation. This municipality is responsible for training a commission from the Governorship of Manisa and the University of Thessaly in the project.

Manisa Development and Improvement Association is also the local co-applicant. The project aims for NGOs and public institutions to cooperate on climate adaptation, therefore MAKGED has an important role in reaching out to NGOs in the local area. As an NGO, MAKGED will act as a contact desk for local NGOs on green future. CSOs will also be able to contact this association after the project. Through the online workshop, various organisations will be able to cooperate with each other outside the project.  The code of the software created by the project will be shared with the partners to be used in their localities after the project. The scenarios created for children will be shared with the Provincial Directorate of National Education to be used as teaching materials. The project operates with the slogan ‘today’s youth are tomorrow’s future’, i.e. it instils in today’s children the awareness of a green future so that they can pick fruit from the adults of the future.
